About Mortens Aften

Mortens Aften (St. Martin's Eve) is a cherished Danish tradition celebrated on the evening of November 10. According to legend, the humble Saint Martin hid in a goose pen to avoid being elected bishop, but the geese betrayed him with their loud cackling, and he was forced to accept the role. As a playful act of revenge, the goose became the centerpiece of the feast.

Today, however, most Danish families have swapped the goose for roast duck. Mortens Aften marks the beginning of the Danish holiday season, a time for gathering with loved ones around the dinner table, enjoying good food and wine, and embracing the warmth of hygge as the winter darkness settles in.

This story of humility is not just a tale from the past, it remains deeply embedded in Danish culture and business DNA to this day.
