Free Event: China’s air quality and water crises at the Danish embassy on May 17th

DCCC is happy to invite members to take part in this event hosted by the Danish Embassy. The event is free for DCCC members.

The Royal Danish Embassy presents a VR cinematic experience, talks and panel discussion on China's biggest environmental challenges ahead with the resent improvement in the air quality in Beijing is the environmental crises in China over? What are the key challenges for environmental governance in the year ahead and what actions should China take?

This event will screen the short VR documentary Mist over Beijing by Danish Documentarist Robert Fox and give you an insight into the current environmental state of Affair in China.

Screening Mist over Beijing – A VR documentary by filmmaker Robert Fox.

Mist over Beijing tells the story of an old Beijing doctor who becomes part of the exploding statistics of people who catches lung cancer. His research shows that it is the type of lung cancer that is NOT connected to smoking. Short introduction to the movie project by Robert Fox. Audience will be able to test on VR glasses.

The VR film project is funded by Danish Ministry of Education and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Alongside his commercial projects Fox has gained praise for his artistic, humanitarian and educational works and he has produced movies for Danish Film Institutes, Ministries, Art Councils, DR TV and more, Air Quality in Beijing – status and challenges ahead. By speaker Anders Hove. Hove will speak about improvements in Beijing's air quality over the past three years, and especially this past winter. His remarks will link the recent improvement to specific policy actions covering both energy and emissions—policies with both local and global consequences, given the relationship between air quality and fossil fuel combustion. What challenges lies ahead?

Hove has both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from MIT, and he is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is the author of numerous reports and articles related to the energy sector in China and has worked in the energy field for 18 years.

China has a Water Crises – how can it be solved? By speaker Mads Terkelsen While things might look brighter for China's air quality the same thing can not be said about the water situation. Water scarcity is the environmental issue that can be a game changer in China in the years to come. Water scarcity is a growing problem in China due to both an increase in water resource demands, industry pollution and climatic changes. Surface water and groundwater reservoirs are emptied due to increasing water extraction and decreasing precipitation. Can China fix it before it is too late?
